Lots more songs to enjoy!

It’s the last day for song entries! Is this the final list or will there be more songs today?

Well we’ve had a lot of songs since our last blog roundup so we’ve got some catching up to do. Let’s take a look at some more of the entries so far and do please go and have a listen! That’s what this contest is all about.

George Lunn - Survivors

First up, Song 8 is the brilliant Survivors by George Lunn. (You might remember George from last year’s contest when he gave us the uber-catchy Heir). George tells us about his new song, “Survivors is a song that I created with catchiness and energy in mind. I used a combination of digital and analogue synths to drive the track, with a pumping synth-bass and catchy melodies. I wanted a simple, punchy track that listeners would want to dance along to, then have the melodies stuck in their head for the rest of the day, whilst including interesting harmonies and textures. Here is a little music video I filmed for the song with some friends: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uKSAxpwHFWo.” We certainly recommend you check out that video, and also George’s other songs on Spotify.

Vegetarians & Carnivores - Explorer

Song 9 is Explorer by Vegetarians & Carnivores AKA Simon Carbery. Songwriter, vocalist and guitarist Simon Carbery has worked with over 20 singers and instrumentalists for solo/collaborative project Vegetarians & Carnivores, which is influenced by alternative rock and pop, film music, world, jazz and classical. Simon is also a member of UK alternative rock band The Wood Demons, and under his pen name Cornelius Fuel, published a children’s adventure novel, The Morphant.

Stroud Song Contest 2022 finalist, Paul Keyes is back in the guise of Ocean Minded with this year’s song 10, Sky Fall Down. This song is an ominous warning to care of our fragile world. Ocean Minded, AKA Paul Keyes says “The Song is about all of us, & looking at the way we treat the Planet, there is only one & there is no plan B”. Sobering stuff and worth a listen!

Consequences by Brian Wilcox is song 11 this year. Minimalist and stirring, Brian beautifully delivers his simple yet powerful message. He told us, “The song is about seeing news feeds and the words we hear through media often … and I thought ‘just love someone’. It’s simplistic but it’s all we should strive to do each day perhaps, then maybe some of these words will cease to be spoken”. Hear more of Brian’s music, and beautiful guitar playing, on Soundcloud.

Song 12 is the gripping Amen by RAIN. We’re delighted to have Rain back in the contest after we were first introduced to their polished and singalongable rock sound in last year’s contest. Check out the epic guitar solo in this one!! Formed in 1996, RAIN draw from the guitar-based sound of bands such as Radiohead, Oasis, Blur and Coldplay. They now operate as a part of ‘Rainmusic6080’ a video/music publishing enterprise based in Stroud. Amen is a song that we can all identify with. The band say, “It’s about the journey and challenge of human life. Old, young, disabled, disadvantaged, an anthem that builds in layers.”
