First submission

Kicking off the fun for 2022, our first submission is the rallying cry to ‘Do the Prawn’ from Joe Poulton. Joe tells us:

The Prawn is a dance craze or fad performed on television show Britain’s Got Talent, aired on 17 May 2014. The basic move is the Prawn Wave which (Catronia Wightman, Digital Spy) “basically involves wriggling your fingers”.  There are extra steps which feature on an online video.  The Dance was performed by Joe Poulton who lives in Stroud aka The Prawn to his own original song entitled – Do The Prawn and took Britain by storm, it immediately trended world wide on twitter and remained there for much of the show.  The Prawn was also copied by celebrity judges  Amanda Holden and David Walliams. Ant Mcpartlin  and Declan Donelly even persuaded the camera man to Do the prawn as the live performance was going on. On 19 May 2014 Stephen Mulhern and Philip Schofield  both did the prawn when promoting the show on This Morning. The Prawn received mixed reviews,  Gary Bushell stated that Joe ‘Do The Prawn’ Poulton  “looks ok but tastes like crap” and  Caroline Westbrook of the metro stated,  “ridiculous Do The Prawn dance on Saturday night’s show not only won him a place in the next round but also in the hearts of viewers.” Aleesha Dixon said ‘It’s the worst thing I’ve ever seen!”
